Follow the
Earl Bishop Trail

The Trail has been designed to lead the visitor off the beaten track. Although the Causeway and Derry City are both popular tourist destinations, the landscape in between tends to be overlooked, which is surprising, given how breathtaking it is and how many hidden gems lie waiting to be discovered.

However, precisely because it is off the beaten track, the Trail leads you away from the bustle of the modern world.

The easiest ways to follow the Trail are either by car or bicycle, however hikers will find plenty of walks and no shortage of public transport for when those legs get tired! As with anything in life, the more time you take, the more rewarding the Trail will be; it is intended as an antidote to ‘fast tourism".

The Earl Bishop`s Trail runs for approximately 60 miles (almost 100km) between The Giant`s Causeway on the north coast of Northern Ireland and the city of Derry / Londonderry, on the banks of the River Foyle. Along its route, the Trail takes in prehistoric landscapes, a medieval castle, Georgian follies, beautiful churches and a cathedral as well as fabulous views.

All are connected in some way to Frederick Hervey, the 4th Earl of Bristol (1730-1803); the so-called Earl Bishop.
